Expenditure on Social Protection

Public expenditure on social protection refers to disbursements for services and transfers to individuals and families that cover the following sub-functions of social protection: sickness and disability, old age, survivors, family and children, unemployment, Housing and social exclusion. This function covers risks that can be faced by the whole population (for example, illness, advanced age and unemployment), but also risks associated with structural problems such as poverty and inequality (sub-function social exclusion, including, for example, conditional transfers or PTC).
